FAQ's

What is a panelized home?

A panelized building system incorporates construction techniques that use advanced technology, quality materials and a controlled work environment to build energy-efficient homes in less time. Your new home’s panels would be engineered and fabricated in our manufacturing facility in just a few days before being shipped to your home site. Once at the site, the shell of a panelized home can be erected and made weather-tight in a matter of days.

Can I customize my panelized home?

We offer upgrades for each of our designs to better suit your needs.

Does Kiwi lay the foundation?

Yes, Kiwi has an available team of experts to prepare your foundation if you are located in the Vancouver Lower Mainland or surrounding Howe Sound areas. If you are outside the Lower Mainland, we recommend that your General Contractor connects with our staff at Kiwi to ensure the dimensions of your foundation are a perfect fit with your panelized home.

How do I finance my panelized home?

At this time Kiwi does not offer financing, but we are in the process of working with lenders in order to assist our clients.

What type of warranty comes with my panelized home?

Every Kiwi panelized home is protected by a 2-5-10 year Warranty Plan.

How is a panelized home insulated?

Kiwi insulates your homes with blown in cellulose or hemp. This gives you a net-zero and energy efficient home without the health concerns or negative environmental impact of alternative products. We strive to deliver homes that are healthy for the environment, for the homeowners and for our crews that build them.

What makes Kiwi's panelized homes sustainable and green?

Kiwi builds sustainably in 3 ways:

  1. Our Method: Controlled environment & fabrication—by fabricating the homes in our controlled facility, we have the ability to plan and standardize our panels, reducing the margin for error, which means less wasted material.
  2. Our Materials: Prefabrication gives us the time and ability to source materials in bulk that are more environmentally friendly and less detrimental to our health. Kiwi uses hempcrete for insulation, a mixture of hemp and lime, which allows for a more breathable and healthier alternative to spray foam insulation.
  3. Our Designs: By standardizing our builds and taking into consideration square-footage in relation to material proportions, we can minimize material waste. We retrofit our homes with high-performance windows and high-efficiency plumbing and lighting hookups.
What is the WELL Building Standard?

Founded in the belief that buildings should be developed with people’s health and wellness at the center of design, the WELL Building Standard is a system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and well-being, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.

What is the cost of permitting?

Permit costs are determined by each local governing authority. Please refer to your local city's website for permitting cost information.

How long does the whole process take?

Once we've finalized design and budget, permitting documents can be submitted. Permitting approval can take 3-12 months depending on your local building authority. Once permitting is approved, the manufacturing process can take 4-5 weeks, and to erect onsite 1-4 days. Generally, the whole process from beginning to end can take 6-18 months.
